Welcome to this month’s theme of “I Am Gone but Very Near.” We all have our own beliefs about what happens after we die. Some of us believe in Heaven, others in reincarnation, still others in no afterlife, to name a few. Regardless of our beliefs, we all continue to love, think about, and have memories of our deceased loved ones. Even though our loved ones are gone, our love, thoughts, and memories of them remain very near. A healthy part of the grief journey is transitioning to a new kind of relationship with our deceased loved ones. A relationship that enables us to hold them in our hearts while also engaging with the world and making our lives good again. Our loved ones are gone but very near.
