One of the ways we can nurture a sense of belonging after the loss of a loved one is by connecting with others. I am continually amazed at the depth of connections forged quickly in the grief education and support gatherings I help facilitate. We often enter the gatherings as strangers, but leave as individuals deeply bonded through our common experiences of grief and loss. Once weve established the ground rules for a safe space, participants can let go into it and be both authentic and vulnerable two superpowers. With these superpowers, we recognize that we arent alone. Others understand and can relate. We belong in a new way.
