When we find that inner stillness deep within, it doesnt end there. It is from that place that we can live our lives more intentionally, even in our grief. Contemplation and action are linked like a spring and stream are. As Trappist monk, writer, poet and social activist Thomas Merton said, Action is the stream, and contemplation is the spring. A spring without a stream bubbles over and becomes a stagnant pool and a stream without a spring dries up. We need to attend to both our inner stillness as well as the action that comes from it. This serves us well as we grieve.
