I recall the first time my parents took me to a PSU game over 40 years ago (Pitt vs PSU). The excitement of seeing JoePa was in all of our minds so much that my husband and I took our foreign exchange student from Brazil to his first experience at American football in 2005. His excitement as he captured a picture of JoePa (not really knowing who he was but knowing he was a celebrity in all of our minds)as the bus rounded the corner to the stadium. My children have grown up knowing that JoePa WAS Penn State and how they all mourned Sunday at the news will be forever engraved in my mind and my heart. You didn't have to be a student at PSU or an alumni to adore what he truly represented and what he stood for. He will truly be remembered for what he contributed to millions of students, fans and the community that spans a nation and in our case, continents! May God be with you all. His legacy will live for generations to come! With love and prayers, the Amer family

Mrs. Paterno and Family,

My sincere condolences for your loss. I thank you for sharing you husband with us. Although I never met the man, I feel like he's a close friend based upon our love for Penn State.

America lost a true gentleman. When I think of the word legacy, its not what someone may write about you, but what you leave behind that is enduring. Joe has left plenty behind that will forever carry his legacy to future generations, from a library, the student-athletes he coached, to those who admired him and what he stod for.

It is now up to us Penn Staters to honor his legacy and continue to give back, and most importantly, make an impact in our endevours. God bless.

To the Paterno Family:

I wanted to express to you my deepest sympathies for your loss. Joe was an amazing man, and he truly touched and changed the lives of thousands of people throughout the course of his incredible life.

Since Joe passed away, I have been thinking about how one man can impact so many lives. I came to the conclusion that the Penn State community is like a giant family, and Joe was like everybody's grandfather--he was caring, philanthropic, positive, and a wonderful role model that everyone in the Penn State family aspired in some way to be. Just as when a loving grandfather passes, our giant Penn State family has lost a piece of itself that will never be replaced.

I wish the best to all Paterno's in this difficult time. Your Penn State family will always be here for you when you need us, and Joe will always be watching over you when you need him too.

Best Wishes, Heather Alleva
